Michigan State hockey will reportedly host one of the top players in the 2027 NHL Draft class for a visit this weekend.
According to Scott Wheeler of The Athletic, Canadian star defenseman Landon DuPont will visit with Michigan and Michigan State prior to making a decision on where he’ll play next season. The expectation is that DuPont will first visit with the Wolverines prior to visiting Michigan State over the next couple of days.
Wheeler added in his report that he believes Michigan is the frontrunner for DuPont’s commitment, but isn’t ruling out Michigan State in this heated recruiting battle.
DuPont played in the WHL this past season, starring on the blue line for the Everett Silvertips. He finished the regular season with 73 points (18 goals and 55 assists) across the 63 games played. Additionally, he recorded 23 points (5 goals and 18 assists) in 18 playoff games this year.
DuPont is considered a future top 10 pick (some have him as the top pick) in the 2027 NHL Draft and would be an instant game changer for either the Spartans and Wolverines next year. How this recruiting battle shakes out will most likely determine who enters next season as the favorite in the Big Ten and potentially the preseason No. 1 team as well.
