Spartans picked as opponent for pair of Big Ten homecoming games

Michigan State football will be the opponent for a pair of homecoming games this upcoming season.

With the 2026 season quickly approaching, teams have started to release updates to their schedules — including naming their homecoming game. For Michigan State, that means they’ll play a pair of road homecoming matchups:

For the Spartans, their homecoming game will be against Illinois on October 10.

Traditionally, you’ll notice teams pick their homecoming game to be against a team you believe you’ll beat. Homecoming weekend brings in a ton of alumni and fans, and you want them to leave happy after a victory if possible. So make with that as you will that both the Badgers and Bruins picked Michigan State as their homecoming game this upcoming season. It could be worse, though, as Maryland was selected as the homecoming opponent by three different teams as their homecoming game this upcoming season.

Michigan State kicks off the 2026 season on September 4 against Toledo. Kickoff for that game will be at 8 p.m. ET.
