Rain and strong winds whipping across Michigan on Friday, Jan. 9, will give way to cooler temperatures and moderate to heavy snow over the weekend.
Cities across Michigan saw record-breaking Friday morning warmth before temperatures started to fall. Accumulating snow is in the forecast with a rain expected to develop in central to southeast Michigan on Saturday, Jan. 10.
By Monday morning, Jan. 12, most of Michigan will see a fresh coat of snow — up to 7 inches in snowbelt areas, according to the National Weather Service’s Probabilistic Precipitation Portal. Outside of snowbelt areas, 3 inches or less is expected.
Weekend temperatures in the Lower Peninsula will range in the 20s to lower 40s during the day, with cooler highs in northern Michigan. At night, temperatures will drop to the lower 20s. In the Upper Peninsula, highs will range mainly in the 20s and drop to the teens at night.
