Here is a look at the Greater Lansing high school girls basketball Dream Team and all-area selections for the 2025-26 season.
PLAYER OF YEAR
Kaitlyn Johnson
School: Haslett
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The Saginaw Valley State signee was named to the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan top Division 2 all-state team and earned Michigan Sports Writers second team all-state honors. She recorded 12 double-doubles while helping the Vikings to a CAAC Red title and a Division 2 district championship. Johnson averaged 14.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.0 steals and 2.0 blocks for Haslett. She shot 44.8% from 3-point range.
DREAM TEAM
Maya Barker
School: Holt
Year: Junior
Accomplishments: Barker averaged 15.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 3.0 steals while contributing to Holt winning CAAC Blue and Division 1 district titles.
Sophia Beland
School: DeWitt
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The guard was a BCAM honorable mention all-state selection. She averaged 7.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.0 steals and was the defensive player of year for the Panthers. She was a key cog in helping the Panthers win Division 1 district and regional titles while reaching the state semifinals.
Elly Bengel
School: Pewamo-Westphalia
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The Lansing Community College commit was named BCAM’s Best in Division 3 and Michigan Sports Writers first team all-state. She surpassed 1,000 career points this season and helped the Pirates win CMAC, district and regional titles en route to a Division 3 state runner-up finish. Bengel averaged 12.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists and 2.1 steals. She shot 45.1% from the field, 31.5% from 3-point range and made 45 3-pointers.
Sydney Black
School: East Lansing
Year: Junior
Accomplishments: Black was named BCAM’s Best in Division 1 and a Michigan Sports Writers second team all-state selection. She averaged 16.0 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and 1.7 steals per game. Black will enter her senior season with 918 career points.
Carly Dennis
School: DeWitt
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The forward was named BCAM’s Best and Michigan Sports Writers honorable mention all-state in Division 1. She averaged 12.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and set the school record for career wins with 92. She contributed to DeWitt winning district and regional titles and reaching the state semifinals in Division 1.
Christina Dixon
School: Haslett
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The Grand Valley signee was selected BCAM’s Best in Division 2 and earned Michigan Sports Writers honorable mention all-state accolades. She surpassed 1,000 career points this season and was the top scorer for the Vikings. Dixon averaged 14.3 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.8 steals and 1.1 assists.
Danica Dwyer
School: Owosso
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The point guard was a Michigan Sports Writers second team all-state selection in Division 2 and earned BCAM honorable mention recognition. She averaged 21.6 points, shot 81.2% from the free-throw line and made 30 3s for Owosso. Dwyer also averaged 4.1 steals, 3.6 assists and 7.3 rebounds. She set a single-game school record with 42 points and single-season records with 496 points and 95 steals.
Olivia Gadson
School: Holt
Year: Junior
Accomplishments: Gadson averaged 14 points, 5.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists an 2.0 steals while helping the Rams to CAAC Blue and Division 1 district titles.
Lilly Thelen
School: Portland
Year: Senior
Accomplishments: The Lake Superior State commit was named BCAM’s Best in Division 2 and Michigan Sports Writers honorable mention all-state. She surpassed 1,000 career points this season and helped the Raiders to CAAC White and district titles. Thelen averaged 17 points, 5.2 rebounds, 3.9 assists, 3.7 steals and made 51 3-pointers. She set school records for assists in a season (102), career assists (298) and 3s in a season.
Co-COACH: Steve Eklund, Pewamo-Westphalia – Guided the Pirates to CMAC, district and regional titles and a Division 3 state runner-up finish.
Co-COACH: Michelle Smith, Portland St. Patrick – Led the Shamrocks to district and regional championships and a state runner-up finish in Division 4.
