Results: Here's the most popular reason residents choose to live in Holland

For some of us, Holland is simply the place we grew up; the place where family is, where work is, where home is. For others, living in Holland was a choice. 

Whether for better job opportunities, plentiful mom-and-pop shops, proximity to the lakeshore, or the general community, Holland residents continue to stay, play and love living here.

To honor that, we decided to ask our readers to nominate the aspect of Holland that made them choose to live or continue living here. We recognize there’s probably more than one answer, but we asked voters to pick their favorite aspect — the one that truly drew them or kept them here. 

What draws people to settle or stay in Holland, Michigan? According to our readers, it’s the beaches of Lake Michigan. The lakeshore and beach earned 29.45% of the votes in our poll, finishing just ahead of family at 27.4%.

Holland and the surrounding area is home to several beaches on the shores of Lake Michigan, including Holland State Park, Tunnel Park, Laketown Beach and Saugatuck Dunes State Park. Saugatuck’s Oval Beach is often voted one of the best in the state.
