Report: Lions sign former Titans RB to fill roster hole

The Detroit Lions acted quickly in filling one of the roster openings to start training camp. Per reports, including one from Jordan Schultz, the Lions are adding free agent running back Jabari Small to the 90-man roster.

Small is entering his second NFL season after spending his rookie year with the Tennessee Titans on that team’s practice squad. The 5-foot-8, 205-pound Small played collegiately at Tennessee and went undrafted. He was known for his active feet, seamless cuts and ball security during his college career.

Small effectively replaces Anthony Tyus on the Lions roster. The Lions waived Tyus, an undrafted rookie from Ohio, with a non-football illness designation on Thursday. The newcomer will compete with Tye Bobichaux for reps behind the Lions’ established backfield foursome of Jahmyr Gibbs, David Montgomery, Craig Reynolds and Sione Vaki.
