Redford Thurston athletic director Lawrence Reeves has picked defensive coordinator William Webster to be the Eagles’ interim head coach for the upcoming football season.
Webster replaces Nick Davis, who stepped down at the end of the 2024-25 school year to accept a teaching position with Livonia Public Schools. Davis graduated from Churchill in 2015.
“My vision for Thurston football is to compete at a high level and, one day, become a powerhouse program,” Webster said in a press release on June 19. “My dedicated staff and I are committed to developing our young men not only as exceptional football players but also to prepare them for success in life long after their playing days are over.
“There’s a new era dawning for Thurston football, and we’re ready to build something special!”
Webster is Thurston’s third coach since Michigan High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Famer Bob Snell retired in 2021 after leading the program for 34 seasons.
Eagles graduate Antwain White acted as an interim coach in 2022 before Reeves hired Davis to become the official head coach the following offseason. Davis helped the team make back-to-back playoff appearances, winning 13 games over his two seasons.
Webster played under Snell before graduating from Thurston in 2011 and going on to play linebacker at Ferris State.
He has worked as the Eagles’ defensive coordinator for the past two seasons.
“Coach Webb’s impact was undeniable,” Reeves said. “His defensive units consistently stifled opponents, allowing less than 60 points total in each regular season — a testament to his strategic prowess and ability to cultivate disciplined play. Now, as head coach, Coach Webb is poised to infuse both sides of the ball with the same aggression and intensity that defined his succesfful tenure as defensive coordinator.”
Thurston hosts Port Huron Northern to open the season on Aug. 28.
