MILFORD – Premier Pet Supply is newly opened at 750 General Motors Road.Customers at the store, the former site of Pet Supplies “Plus,” are impressed with renovations that included double the amount of previous lighting as well as a more open layout. More exciting additions are coming, including self-serve dog wash stalls and pet adoption days.
“It’s been fantastic,” said Mike Palmer, who co-owns the store with Brandon Thorne. “Everyone has been really welcoming and we’re getting great reactions on how good the store looks… We’re committed to taking care of our customers and contributing to the community.”
Don Fiegley, an owner of dogs, cats, birds and a host of other animals, was among those excited to shop at Premier Pet Supply just a few days after its Oct. 20 opening.
“This is the best the store has looked in 20 years,” Fiegley said. “It looks great. I’m very happy.”
Palmer and Thorne began renovations after the closing of Pet Supplies “Plus,” which lost its lease at the end of August. The pair retained eight former Pets Supplies “Plus” employees, including Manager Mark Slater, and hope to hire up to eight more employees.
Premier Pet Supply carries all the same brands as the former store did, Palmer said, and also has 25 to 30 Michigan or local brands. In total, there are more than 10,000 items in the store, arranged on shelves with wider aisles. Popular fresh, frozen and gently cooked foods are kept in six double door freezers and a refrigerator near the front of the store. For local customers who can’t make it in, the store offers free same day delivery.
Palmer and Thoren are already planning a sale for Small Business Saturday after Thanksgiving, when there will be 10% off all dog and cat food, as well as kitty litter and bird seed, and 20% off everything else in the store. A grand opening with more deals yet to be disclosed is also set for mid-November.
Premier Pet Supply, which originated in Beverly Hills 33 years ago and now has 14 locations in southeast Michigan, is a partner of the Michigan Humane Society and Palmer and Thorne plan to have daily adoptions at the Milford store. They welcome any and all rescues to participate.
“We are thrilled to be part of the community,” Thorne said.
