Once again, we have politicians like Gov. Gretchen Whitmer telling us what she thinks is best, versus listening to what the people want, or in this case do not want.
I have read enough about data centers to know the environmental damage, the energy-electricity it takes, the resources it takes and at the expenses to the consumer. There is no job or amount of money that benefits Michiganders directly that is worth any data center.
I, for one, would never buy a home anywhere near a data center, so there goes the value of your home immediately.
Not only is Whitmer approving of these data centers, but not making any restrictions on how it affects those homeowners and what they will end up paying for the additional cost of electricity, water, possible pollution and decreases in home values, like the Virginia governor did.
This is a bipartisan issue as Trump and his administration and those supporting him also support data centers because it’s big tech money, Musk, Google, Meta and such paying for their campaigns. It’s time we get people back in office that are listening to the people all the time, not just some of the time.

Why is U.S. obsessed with gambling?
Thank you, Mitch Albom, for writing an article about our obsession with gambling in this country. (“America has become a craps table for dangerous things,” April 26.)
Why most people are okay with this, is the very subject is I have thought about for quite some time. I am a clinical therapist, and the amount of people getting addicted is very much out of control. It feels like 50% of our commercials are about how people can have so much fun playing these games.
Well, there is a price for this, and the person playing is not the one who is winning. It is so out of control, even our children who attend these play areas for birthdays, and they are nothing but mini-slot machines.
What are we teaching our children? Even the athletes are gambling, and losing their positions. Thank you so much for bringing this up, and it needs to be brought to the minds of adults about what we are teaching out children.

Democratic Convention was not a circus
M.L. Elrick got it all wrong about the Michigan Democratic Nominating Convention. (“Michigan Democrats put up a big tent — and ended up with a circus,” April 21.) It was not a circus; it was a real expression of democracy. Booing candidates who support the Gaza war (or any other un-democratic activity) is free speech, the same as applauding or cheering. As far as an antisemitic sentiment in the party, I didn’t see it. (Washtenaw County Prosecutor) Eli Savit (who is Jewish) got nominated. Attendees were against Israel’s war on Palestinians, not Jewish people.
