CANTON TWP. — A 13-year-old girl was fatally shot July 29 at the Ridgeline at Canton Apartments, the Canton Police Department said.
In a Facebook post, the department said officers responded to the apartment complex located off Joy Road and Honeytree Boulevard about 12:24 p.m. after a shooting was reported.
First responders were on scene within minutes and attempted life-saving medical care to the victim, who ultimately died from her injuries, police said.
A person of interest is in police custody, and police said they do not believe there is a threat to the community. The area will remain closed for an undetermined amount of time as the investigation continues.
In a related event, the department said a police vehicle was involved in a crash at Cherry Hill and Lilley roads while responding to the 911 call with minor injuries reported.
