Police: Florida man left girlfriend decomposing in Taylor motel

Authorities are searching for a Florida sex offender accused of leaving his dead girlfriend in a Taylor motel.

Christopher Schoomaker is suspected of leaving Rebecca Patnaude, 44, decomposing inside a room at Red Roof Inn, 21230 Eureka Road.

Police believe the 46-year-old has left the state and are “tracking several leads,” said Taylor Lt. Josh Schneider.

Officers found Patnaude’s body after they were called to the scene around 2 p.m. Friday, Schneider said.

“She was severely decomposed,” he said. “She had been there multiple days, upwards of possibly a week.”

Schoomaker is not suspected of foul play but could be charged with misdemeanor failure to report a deceased person and felony concealment of a death in connection with his actions, Schneider said.

Schneider also noted Schoomaker is wanted out of Florida for absconding in connection with his sex offender status.

Asked about Schoomaker’s motive for leaving Patnaude, Schneider believes it was for financial reasons.
