Cleveland — The Detroit Pistons continue to rack up awards that showcase their rise to championship contention.
The NBA announced Tuesday afternoon that Pistons’ Cade Cunningham is the Eastern Conference Player of the Month for games played in February. Cunningham’s honor comes a day after Jalen Duren received Player of the Week honors in the Eastern Conference.
The All-NBA guard led the Pistons to a 9-2 record in February while averaging 25.4 points, 6.5 rebounds and 9.9 assists while shooting 47.2% from the field in 11 games. This marks Cunningham’s second Player of the Month award this season.
Cunningham delivered his best performance of the month in a remarkable game at Madison Square Garden. On Feb. 19, he led the Pistons to a 126-111 victory, scoring 42 points and recording 13 assists, eight rebounds, and two blocks. He became the third player in league history to record at least 40 points and 10 assists in The Garden as an opponent, joining Allen Iverson and LeBron James.
Cunningham also notched a four-game streak of at least 10 assists and two blocks from Feb. 19-26. It marked the second-longest in NBA history and the longest streak since Mookie Blaylock did so for five consecutive games in 1994 with the Atlanta Hawks.
Cunningham is joined by San Antonio Spurs All-Star Victor Wembanyama, who won Western Conference Player of the Month.
