Paw Paw new D2 No.1 in Michigan high school softball rankings

The latest Michigan High School Softball Coaches Association (MHSSCA) rankings were released on Tuesday, April 21, updating the top ten for the four divisions of high school softball after the first few weeks of the season.

Three of the top four teams from the preseason rankings (Saline, Grass Lake, Mendon) remain in their No. 1 spots, but there have been significant changes in the Division 2 rankings, including a new No. 1 team in Paw Paw.

The Paw Paw Red Wolves (13-1), up from No. 4 in the preseason, are the new favorites according to the MHSSCA. No. 2 Carelton Airport (11-0) is up from No. 3 to begin the season. The preseason top-ranked team and the defending D2 state champions, Richmond, are now among the honorable mentions, while the preseason No. 2 Escanaba is at No. 9.

In Division 1, Traverse City Central jumped into the top ten at No. 6. Brooklyn Columbia Central and Evart both jumped into the D3 top ten at No. 5 and 6, respectively, and Brown City jumped in the D4 rankings at No. 8.

Division 1

Honorable Mention: Anchor Bay, Byron Center, Grosse Pointe South, Lake Orion, Midland, Reeths Puffer

Division 2

Honorable Mention: Hamilton, Farmington Hills Mercy, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, Richmond, Stevensville Lakeshore, Swan Valley, Wayland

Division 3

Honorable Mention: Cass City, Clinton, Coloma, Hanover Horton, Kingsley, Lansing Catholic, Ottawa Lake Whiteford, Standish-Sterling

Division 4

Honorable Mention: Buckley, Decatur, Gobles, Maple City Glen Lake
