A 60-year-old Ottawa Lake woman died following a crash on US-23 in Whiteford Township Saturday, Feb. 14, according to Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough.
Deputies were called to US-23 south of Sterns Road shortly before 10 p.m.
According to the preliminary investigation, an 18-year-old Dundee man was operating a Ford F-150 northbound in the left lane with a 17-year-old Dundee girl as a front seat passenger when it was hit head on by a Ford Escape driven by the Ottawa Lake woman. The Escape was traveling southbound in the northbound left lane, according to the sheriff’s office.
The Dundee teens were taken to a local hospital listed in serious condition.
Rhonda Bartnik, 60, of Ottawa Lake was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Members of the Whiteford Township Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, and the MonroeCounty Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit and Chaplain Program assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by Lt. Brian Quinn and deputies Alec Preadmore and Steven Warren of the Traffic Services Division. Anyone with information is asked to call 734-240-7541.
