Authorities report that a house fire that killed one person in Wolverine on Sunday, May 3 remains under investigation.
According to the Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to a residential structure fire in the Wolverine area at approximately 1:59 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, deputies observed an active fire and a vehicle parked in the driveway. They attempted to enter the home, while assisting with fire suppression, to search for any occupants who may have been inside.
Deputies and fire personnel later learned that the 68-year-old homeowner was unaccounted for, and officials said that individual was later found dead inside the home.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. Assisting agencies include the Michigan State Police Fire Investigation Unit, Wolverine Fire Department, Tuscarora Fire Department, Cheboygan Life Support and CCE 911.
In the release, Sheriff Todd Ross extended his heartfelt condolences to the family of the victim and said no further information is available at this time.
