Niemann Harvest Market grocery opens in Ann Arbor at Briarwood Mall

A new grocery store featuring specialized items, like in-house churned butter, made its debut on Wednesday, April 15, in Ann Arbor.

Niemann Harvest Market, set on the east wing of the Briarwood Mall, is a 57,000-square-foot store more than a year in the making, with unique departments under one roof.

Highlights of the market include a full-service butcher, scratch bakery, seafood, deli and artisan cheese area, and produce departments with conventional and organic products and a broad range of groceries.

“The market fosters meaningful connections between its customers and associates, and the farmers, food makers, and land that sustain them,” according to a news release.

Ann Arbor is the fourth location of the associate-owned Niemann Foods, based in Quincy, Illinois.

“Harvest Market is proud to be part of the Ann Arbor community,” said Rick Marshall, Harvest Market store director, in a news release. “We look forward to bringing our incredible network of makers and producers to our neighbors’ dinner table, while creating a space that celebrates fresh, local flavors and meaningful connections.”

The opening of Harvest Market is part of the redevelopment of the Briarwood Mall property, now owned by Simon, a real estate investment trust committed to redefining the retail experience by offering “premier shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations.”

“At Simon, we’re continuing to reshape the modern retail experience, and the transformation of properties like Briarwood Mall, reflects that,” said Bill Moston, Vice President of Development at Simon, in a news release. “The addition of Harvest Market, alongside exciting developments on the horizon, reinforces Briarwood Mall’s role as a vibrant community hub for Ann Arbor.”

A mission and commitment of Harvest Market, which also has locations in Illinois and Indiana, is to provide customers with “integrity and transparency” and a connection to farmers and food producers, many of them local.

A well-known feature of Harvest Market is its partnerships with local and regional makers and products. In Ann Arbor, the grocer will work with Michigan farms and regional artisan food producers. Customers can expect items marked by “Local Partner” signage throughout the store.

Like other stores, the Ann Arbor location featured its Farmhouse Restaurant, a farm-to-table restaurant highlighting a rotating menu of items that feature an array of products from the market, including its house-churned butter. Open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, the Farmhouse Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner for dine-in and curbside pickup. There are omelets, egg combos, scratch-made biscuits to gourmet burgers, sandwiches and meals for kids.

Highlights, according to its website, include:
