Nessel to appeal parole of man who assaulted, kidnapped Brighton woman

Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel will appeal the recently approved parole of Floyd Sanford Jarvi Jr. — convicted more than 30 years ago of sexually assaulting a Brighton resident.

Jarvi, 67, was given a release date of March 10. He was previously granted parole in 2022, but the decision was reversed after a successful emergency stay of enforcement. Nessel announced her intention Jan. 22 to file a new appeal with the 44th Circuit Court in Livingston County in an attempt to get the parole board decision overturned again.

“Mr. Jarvi continues to show a lack of remorse for his heinous crimes,” Nessel wrote in a release. “Granting parole in this case completely disregards his refusal to take full accountability, the potential threat to the community, and the substantial harm suffered by the survivor.”

Jarvi pleaded no contest to five counts of criminal sexual conduct, one count of kidnapping, one count of armed robbery, two counts of resisting and obstructing an officer, one count of carrying a concealed weapon and six counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in 1994. He was sentenced to 25-60 years in prison.

He was accused of assaulting, raping and kidnapping Wendy Jo Morrison as she was driving home from a waitressing job at Grady’s Restaurant at the Novi Mall. Morrison has repeatedly advocated against his release, telling The Daily in 2018 that she’d attended every parole hearing and calling it “the most terrible thing I have to do, every year.”

Jarvi became eligible for parole in 2014, but was repeatedly denied until 2022. He is currently lodged in the Central Michigan Correctional Facility in St. Louis.
