The Jacksonville Jaguars’ Week 1 plans for Travis Hunter seem to be coming into focus as training camp nears its end.
During practices last week, including the joint practice with Carolina, almost every one of Hunter’s snaps came at cornerback.
That trend then continued during Sunday’s training camp practice.
ESPN’s Michael DiRocco, who has been tracking each one of Hunter’s 11-on-11 snaps this summer, noted that he played 20 snaps in the latest practice, all of which came on defense.
DiRocco also noted that on one play, Hunter had tight coverage on Brian Thomas Jr. in the end zone, forcing an incompletion on a pass from Trevor Lawrence.
In total, Hunter has played 249 snaps in team periods, with 183 coming on defense and 65 on offense. And that difference has been even more skewed over the last week.
The expectation throughout the offseason was that Hunter was going to play a much more significant role on defense this season. That said, this doesn’t mean we won’t see him at wide receiver at all. But what that workload looks like still remains to be seen. Weekly matchups and in-game situations could dictate Hunter’s snaps on offense.
