NCMC, regional partners to host emergency training exercise June 7

Residents should not be alarmed if they see a lot of emergency vehicles at North Central Michigan College on June 7. It’s simply part of an emergency preparedness training exercise involving multiple regional agencies and partners.

According to the college, the training will take place from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. Participating entities include NCMC, Michigan National Guard, the Petoskey Department of Public Safety, the Emmet County Sheriff’s Office, Cheboygan/Charlevoix/Emmet 911 and Emmet County Emergency Management.

College officials said the training exercise is based on scenarios identified during a risk analysis workshop conducted by NCMC’s Security Committee last fall. The exercise will simulate a civil unrest incident and is expected to include between 150-200 participants.

No live weapons, sirens or flashing lights will be used in the training. Residents may notice the presence of uniformed Michigan National Guard personnel and military vehicles on campus. “Exercise in Progress” signs will be posted. Student housing facilities and residential areas are not part of the exercise.
