PETERSBURG – Maylie Mullins did it all for Whiteford’s volleyball team.
The sophomore led the Bobcats in both kills (11) and digs (16) during a 25-15, 26-24, 25-22 victory over Summerfield on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
“A great win for us,” Whiteford coach Janie Valdez said.
Other standouts for 5-6 Whiteford included Bailey Spradling (9 kills, 8 digs), Kailee LaVoy (8 kills, 6 aces), Savannah Seevers (13 digs) and Addeson Cousino (26 assists).
Jaeli Jones logged 9 kills and 4 blocks for Summerfield while Mia Samples added 7 points and 12 digs, Kyra Horak 5 kills and Gabi Myshock 4 kills and 4 blocks.
TUESDAY’S TOP PERFORMERS
VOLLEYBALL
Brandie Gobrecht, Ida: Logged 13 digs in a 25-12, 25-18, 25-14 victory over Onsted. Julia Williams (7), Libbie Wolfenbarger (6) and Addy Wilt (6) led in kills, and Ella Taylor and Alyssa Torres played well. “Things really clicked for us tonight,” Ida coach Ashley Begeman said. “Big step forward for us as a team.”
Lilly Motylinski, Dundee: Put down 14 kills during a 23-25, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20 loss to Clinton. Lacey Evans contributed 29 digs and Maddie Salenbien 7 blocks. Ella Fowler served at 100 percent.
BOYS CROSS COUNTRY
Joseph Colaluca, Erie Mason: Took first place individually with a time of 17:44.97 to lead his team to first place in a Tri-County Conference jamboree. The Eagles finished with 20 points, 28 ahead of second-place Sand Creek. Summerfield was third with 91 and Whiteford fourth with 93. David Mills, Caleb Healey, Porter Ravary and Weston Albright ran 3-4-5-7. Whiteford’s Grant Rasor was sixth and Summerfield’s Colin Brown 15th.
Dane Hieronimus, Bedford: Captured 15th place in a Southeastern Conference jamboree. Teammates Cam Varner and Maddi Duke ran 25-34. Joshua Riggs led Monroe in 53rd.
Luke Stanley, Ida: Captured 10th place in a Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree. The Dundee trio of Ethan Eby, Alex Tremonti and Mason Edelbrok ran together in 24-25-26.
GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY
Braelynn Chiotti, Whiteford: Took the individual title in a Tri-County Conference jamboree. Summerfield ran 2-5-6-11 with Allison Ost, Makenzie Wolfe, Grace Raymond and Abby Raymond to help the Bulldogs place second behind Sand Creek. Tanylei Neff was fourth and Riley England 13th for Erie Mason.
Audrey Grosteffon, Bedford: Took 23rd place in a Southeastern Conference jamboree, and teammate Sophia Johnson was 28th. Anna Coury was Monroe’s top runner in 56th.
Brynn Lusky, Ida: Was 14th place finisher in a Lenawee County Athletic Association jamboree. She was one spot ahead of Dundee’s Lydia Richards, and Addison Ringbloom of Dundee was 19th.
GIRLS SWIMMING
Lily Ratliff, Dundee: Won the backstroke 50-yard freestyle during a 103-74 win over Ypsilanti Lincoln, hitting a state-qualifying time in one and a MISCA cut in the other. Sloan Branum won the 100 and 200 freestyle and finished the same on the two winning freestyle relays. Other relay members were Allory Bennett, Kathryn Smith, Alexis Colby, Lily Homrich, Kim Coon and Ratliff.
Avery Hovatter, Milan: Won the 50 and 500-yard freestyles and swam on a winning relay as the Big Reds swept all 12 events to beat Tecumseh 122-57 and Erie Mason-Ida 125-55. Lila Mckenna (backstroke, 200), Evelyn Gill (butterfly, individual medley) also were double winners and Kaylin Brown (diving), Mary Kate Wayne (100) and Kelsie Gillay (breaststroke) won events. Alexis Etue was the top scorer for Erie Mason-Ida, which fell 105-74 to Tecumseh. She won the butterfly against Tecumseh. Issy Cureton, Addy Etue, Giuliana Nastale and Chloe Arnold also were top scorers for the Eagles.
Katelyn Rutkowski, SMCC: Won the individual medley and 100 freestyle and swam on the winning medley relay with Genavieve Bylow, Brianna Lynch and Peggy Jo Gessner during an 81-78 loss to Wayne Memorial. Bylow also won the backstroke.
GIRLS GOLF
Ragan Oscar, Bedford: Shot 52 as the Mules shot 215 to finish behind Ann Arbor Huron (171) and Saline (181). Bedford also got 53s by Sophie Kops and Abigail Kirk.
Gracie Gottschalk, Monroe: Shot 52 to tie for the second-best score of the day as the Trojans lost to Ann Arbor Skyline and beat Jackson. Ashken Aaron added a 55 for Monroe.
BOYS SOCCER
Trey Heaton, State Line Christian: Scored his fourth and fifth goal of the season in a 3-2 loss to Troy Bethany Christian. JR Hobbins and Garrett Powell had assists for the 2-4-1 Patriots.
