It doesn’t get much better than what we’ll be served up on Friday night in Washington, D.C.
No. 3 seed Michigan State will battle No. 2 seed UConn in a massive Sweet 16 matchup in the East Region. This game between the Spartans and Huskies will follow the other East Region Sweet 16 matchup between No. 1 seed Duke and No. 5 seed St. John’s. The winners of these two games will meet in the Elite Eight on Sunday.
Michigan State comes into the Sweet 16 of impressive wins over No. 14 seed North Dakota State and No. 6 seed Louisville this past weekend. The Spartans led for nearly all 40 minutes of those two games, and will now face a much stiffer challenge in the Huskies.
UConn also picked up impressive victories in their first two NCAA Tournament games last weekend. The Huskies won both games by double-digits, beating No. 15 seed Furman in the first round and No. 7 seed UCLA in the second round.
This will be the first official meeting of the season between Michigan State and UConn, but these two premiere programs did already meet back in the fall for an exhibition game. The Huskies won that exhibition matchup against the Spartans by the final score of 76-69 on October 28.

Game Prediction
Prediction: UConn 76, Michigan State 72
This is a pure toss-up in my opinion, and one that I could see going either way. But I have a slight lean towards the Huskies. Both teams are going to be extremely prepared and well coached, and I believe the difference will be UConn having a few more consistent scoring threats in this tough nosed battle. I will not be surprised if Michigan State proves me wrong (which is what I’m hoping for), though, as this is going to be a fun and potential classic NCAA Tournament matchup on Friday night.
