Michigan State basketball picked up its first commitment from the transfer portal. And it’s a big one.
Charlotte transfer center Anton Bonke committed to Michigan State, according to a report from On3 insider Joe Tipton on Wednesday afternoon.
Bonke is listed at 7 feet, 2 inches and 260 pounds. He will be favored to start at center for the Spartans in the 2026-27 season. He started his career at Providence before transferring to Charlotte, where he had a breakout season. With the 49ers, he averaged 10.6 points, 8.3 rebounds and 25.6 minutes per game.
Bonke is a four-star transfer portal prospect on 247Sports and was one of the top remaining centers in the portal. He visited Michigan State last week and reportedly was receiving interest from Kansas, Cincinnati, NC State, South Carolina, Clemson, Arkansas, TCU, USC and Gonzaga.
With the commitment of Bonke, Michigan State has one open scholarship available. The Spartans lost guard Divine Ugochukwu via the portal on Tuesday and will have the opportunity to replace him or bolster the front court with another big.
