Jase Richardson comments on decision to leave Michigan State early

Recent Michigan State basketball history is filled with “what-ifs.” What if the COVID-19 year didn’t take away Cassius Winston’s last NCAA Tournament run? What if Tre Holloman didn’t transfer to NC State? One of the biggest involves Jase Richardson. The former Michigan State freshman phenom who burst onto the scene last year and parlayed that into a first-round draft selection by the Orlando Magic.

Richardson’s decision was definitely exacerbated by Tre Holloman’s move to NC State, resulting in MSU losing two starting caliber shooting guards in one offseason. Many Spartan fans have wondered what could have been had Richardson stuck around for one more run. However, it’s hard to argue with a first-round draft pick. Had he fallen into the second round, the move would have been much more criticized. As it is, it’s still a common topic among Spartan fans.
