Michigan State basketball has missed the cut for a big-time prospect in the 2027 class.
Davion Thompson of Branson, Mo. has cut his list of schools he’s considering to four, and the Spartans weren’t in the mix. Thompson’s finalists are rival Michigan, Arkansas, Baylor and Vanderbilt.
Thompson is listed as a five-star prospect, with a recruiting rating of 99.16 in 247Sports’ composite system. He ranks as the No. 5 point guard and No. 22 overall prospect in the 2027 class.
Michigan State never formally extended an offer to Thompson but he was considered a prospect the Spartans were in connection with during his recruitment. It’s unclear if he was a high-priority prospect or not so we shouldn’t get too worked up about missing his finalist list.
Michigan State is still in search of their first commit for the 2027 class. I’m sure that’ll change by the time the fall hits.
