A mother of two children with special needs is facing felony charges after her children were found abandoned at home in what police called squalid conditions.
According to a post from the Flint Township Police Department, a neighbor called 911 for a welfare check at the house in Genesee County on Friday.
Officers entered the home and said trash covered the floors, the faucet was running and water was spilling onto the floor, feces was smeared on the wall and two small children were left inside.
One child was found trying to eat raw, spoiled meat and the other was found curled up on the floor, police said.
Police said the children had been left for days, but are safe now.
The mother, Krystal Farmer, was charged with two counts of child abandonment, two counts of child abuse in the second degree, two counts of child abuse in the second degree in the presence of another child and one count of lying to a peace officer during a violent crime investigation.
