Troy man gets Final Jeopardy answer right, but finishes 2nd

An engineer from the metro Detroit city of Troy was one-and-done Friday, May 1, while competing on the game show “Jeopardy!”

Harsha Hebbale, a crash safety engineer, competed alongside contestants Kate Brody, a novelist from Los Angeles, and Stephanie Perkins, a math teacher from St. Louis, Missouri on the May 1 “Jeopardy!” episode, according to Jeopardy.com.

Perkins won, finishing at $16,600, while Hebbale ended the game in second place at $6,381.

Did Harsha Hebbale win on ‘Jeopardy!’?

No, Harsha Hebbale lost on the May 1 “Jeopardy!” episode, finishing second with $6,381.

Going into Final Jeopardy, Hebbale had $6,000, while Perkins lead at $18,800 and Brody trailed with $2,800.

Though he was the only contestant to correctly answer “What is Granny Smith apple?” to the Final Jeopardy prompt, “The name of this fruit commemorates an Australian gardener who died in her 70s in the 19th century,” Hebbale’s meager wager of $381 kept him locked in second place.

Perkins lost $2,200, but remained champion, while Brody wagered it all, ending up with nothing.

Who is Harsha Hebbale?

Harsha Hebbale is a crash safety engineer originally from Troy, Michigan, according to Jeopardy.com.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Hebbale attended the University of Michigan. His profile says he is a crash safety CAE engineer for Ford.
