Monroe County Sheriff's Office raises more than $13K for Victim Services Unit

On Thursday evening, Sept. 11, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Department hosted its first spaghetti fundraiser for the Victim Services Unit. According to Sheriff Troy Goodnough, the event raised more than $13,000 through pre-ordered tickets and donations from sponsors before they had even opened the doors.

The Victim Services Unit is a group of volunteers who specialize in helping people in the aftermath of a crisis. Goodnough provided this example: if someone is the victim of domestic violence and has nowhere to go, the Victim Services Unit can use the money so they can stay in a hotel for a while.

“When people are broken, they need an advantage or a blanket, but they also need to know that someone cares, that they’re not alone, and that someone will help them get through the events that they are experiencing and those to come,” said Darla Myers, a member of Faith Baptist Church, one of the sponsors.
