FARMINGTON HILLS — A June 16 gas leak has stopped, but Middlebelt Road, between Grand River Avenue and Nine Mile Road, will remain closed indefinitely for repairs.
Lauracindy Plague Dávila, the city’s communications manager, said the Farmington Hills Fire Department has confirmed that the gas leak has been contained.
“However, the large gas supply line will take most of the day to repair and as a result the road will remain closed during the repair work,” she said in an email. “There is not an estimate of when it will be reopened at this time.”
The city provided a June 17 update on its Facebook page.
“Crews from Consumers Energy worked through the night and the gas leak was contained early Tuesday morning,” it said.
Brian Wheeler, a Consumers Energy spokesman, said June 17 that a “third party” company doing some boring work made contact with a 6-inch plastic main underground and struck a line.
Repair workers were able to clamp off the leak.
“We literally squeezed it off,” Wheeler said.
If you live in the area and smell an odor of natural gas in your home, call 911.
