The Wolverines aren’t going to wait long to take on a big-time opponent next season.
During the first week of the 2026-27 campaign, Michigan will face UConn in a national title game rematch on Nov. 6 at TD Garden in Boston, the program announced Tuesday.
The game will be part of the TNT Sports Hall of Fame Series, with tip time and broadcast information to be announced at a later date, and will mark the first regular-season meeting between the teams since 2015.
“What an exciting opportunity to face Coach (Dan) Hurley and UConn again,” Michigan coach Dusty May said in a statement. “It’s also a game our fans will really look forward to. Anytime you get two programs like this together that early in the season, it’s going to be a great test and a great atmosphere. Playing in Boston should make it even more fun for our players and everyone traveling out to support us.”
The Wolverines topped the Huskies, 69-63, in the 2026 NCAA Tournament final at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis to capture the program’s second national championship and cap the program’s winningest season ever at 37-3.
While both teams had their share of roster comings and goings this offseason, each side returns several key pieces who played in the title game. UConn brought back starters Braylon Mullins and Silas Demary Jr., along with Jayden Ross. Michigan returns Elliot Cadeau, the Final Four’s Most Outstanding Player, and Trey McKenney, who hit the dagger 3-pointer to seal Michigan’s first title since 1989.
Coupled with the additions of immediate-impact transfers — Nikolas Khamenia (Duke) and Najai Hines (Seton Hall) for UConn and Moustapha Thiam (Cincinnati) and J.P. Estrella (Tennessee) for Michigan — the Wolverines and Huskies are both projected to enter the season ranked in the top 10.
The battle in Boston will provide some early fireworks during Michigan’s nonconference slate that features a home game against Marquette (Nov. 11), a rematch with Duke at New York’s Madison Square Garden (Dec. 21) and a trip to Villanova (date TBD). The Wolverines will also compete in the Players Era tournament in Las Vegas, where they’ll play at least three games during Thanksgiving week.
