Stramel gets an empty net goal to ice this one. This is Stramel’s second goal of the game. Michigan State is going to pick up an impressive sweep of Penn State.

Tempers have finally hit a boiling point. A few different fights have broken out and a number of penalties have been called on both teams. Both penalty boxes are full right now.

Spartans continue to stave off any Penn State chances and lead 3-0 with less than 10 minutes to go in this game.

Spartans goalie Trey Augustine makes a few big saves to keep Michigan State up three. Penn State has picked up the pace but its now a race against the clock for the Nittany Lions.

Martone’s goal late in the period was well-deserved after the Spartans came up short on numerous opportunities in the first period. It would have almost felt disappointing to be up only one goal with how well they played.

Spartans goal! Stramel finds Martone for a one-timer, backdoor goal late in the first period. Ryker Lee also had an assist on the goal from Martone. Michigan State now leads 2-0.

The Spartans have controlled the flow of this game, but still only a one-goal game as we approach the first intermission.

The Spartans kill off another Penn State power play. Back to full strength on both sides.

Michigan State gets a number of great chances on the power play but was unable to pop any through to double their lead. This game is also starting to get chippy already. Lots of fireworks and fun hockey early into this one.

Michigan State is able to successfully kill Penn State’s first power play attempt of the game to keep them ahead 1-0 early in the first period.
The Spartans are now heading to the power play themselves for two minutes.
