Michigan native, 'Evil Dead' actor Bruce Campbell reveals cancer diagnosis

Actor and Michigan native Bruce Campbell has been diagnosed with cancer.

The award-winning actor, known for starring in the “Evil Dead” films, announced the diagnosis in a Monday, March 2, statement posted on social media. While Campbell didn’t reveal what type of cancer he has, he said the illness will impact his career as he goes through treatments.

“Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that — I’m having one of those. It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable,’ not ‘curable.’ I apologize if that’s a shock — it was to me too,” Campbell said in the statement.

Thousands of people commented on Campbell’s Instagram post to offer support and encouragement, including other actors.

“Love U,” actor Alyssa Milano said.

Actor and director Jonathan Frakes added, “I believe in the power of one of my favorite old sons of a bitch. Love ya B.”

What type of cancer does Bruce Campbell have?

Bruce Campbell, 67, has been diagnosed with a “treatable,” but not “curable,” form of cancer, he said in the March 2 statement posted to his profiles on Instagram and X. Campbell did not specify what type of cancer he has.

The diagnosis will impact Campbell’s career schedule as he undergoes treatments this year, the statement said.

Who is Bruce Campbell?

Born Bruce Lorne Campbell in Royal Oak, Michigan, he is an award-winning actor and director, known for starring in the “Evil Dead” films, a franchise he launched with childhood friend and director Sam Raimi, according to IMDb. He also appeared in the longtime series “Burn Notice” and had a recurring role in “Xena: Warrior Princess” among many other TV roles.
