Michigan football predicted to flip Alabama commit Colt Lumpris

Michigan football surged to 14 commitments this week, with the latest being 2027 Chicago (Ill.) Mount Carmel four-star safety Tavares Harrington pledging to the class. And the Wolverines aren’t done yet.

Predictions are starting to roll in for multiple prospects that the maize and blue are in good standing with, and one happens to be committed to another school.

Despite being pledged to Alabama since December 2025, 2027 Lawrenceville (N.J.) School four-star tight end Colt Lumpris has been strongly entertaining the Wolverines. And on Saturday, it became that much more real, with two predictions coming in for Michigan football to flip the elite, 6-foot-6, 249-pounder, with 247Sports’ Brian Dohn and The Michigan Insider’s Brice Marich both prognosticating he’ll eventually wear a winged helmet.

Here is the scouting report from 247Sports’ Hudson Standish:

– High-upside two-way standout at tight end and edge rusher who could feasibly play either side of the ball at the P4 level. Verified hovering a shade over 6-foot-6, 225 pounds with long arms and massive hands. Possesses immense bulking capacity.- Unique fluidity of movement for a player of his size. Lacrosse multi-sport experience clearly translates, considering his ideal short-area quickness and redirection capability.- Clear red zone threat who will battle at the catch point. Growing as a pure ball tracker, but flashed plenty of positives in that regard as a junior. Can generate explosive power in the legs and plays with impressive jump timing.- Young for his class, turns 17 in July.- Primarily deployed as a slot receiver at the prep level, will need to continue improving play strength, technique, and contact courage before he’s ready to give quality in-line reps.- Should be viewed as an immensely high-ceiling pass catcher with an ideal blend of route-running savvy andcontested catch ability. Could eventually draw looks from NFL scouts if he keeps progressing.

ESPN is highest on Lumpris, having him as the No. 218 player in the country. Rivals is right behind, with a ranking of No. 277. 247Sports rates him as a three-star in the proprietary rankings, but a four-star in the 247Sports Composite.
