Ann Arbor — Michigan’s athletic department is projecting a balanced budget for the fiscal year 2026-27 and revenues of $297.3 million, an increase of 5.4% ($15.3 million) from last year.
The budget, which includes two concert dates this summer at Michigan Stadium as well as a football schedule that includes eight home games, was presented Thursday at the university’s Board of Regents meeting.
Expenses will increase 5.5%, which makes this a break-even budget for fiscal year 2027.
The department, according to a consolidated budget booklet shared at the Regents meeting, is searching for a Chief Revenue Officer and is exploring opportunities to generate revenues.
Last year, as athletic departments across the country entered the world of revenue sharing, Michigan’s athletic department received $15 million in funding from the university to help offset expenses associated with the House vs. NCAA settlement.
Michigan’s athletic department last year projected a balanced budget of $266.3 million for fiscal year 2025-26. Revenue from spectator admissions decreased last year because Michigan football had a six-game schedule at Michigan Stadium.
