Voters in Midland, Bay and Saginaw counties took to the polls Tuesday, May 5, to decide a special election between Democrat Chedrick Greene and Republican Jason Tunney for the vacant 35th Senate District.
The seat has been open since U.S. Rep. Kristen McDonald Rivet, D-Bay City, was sworn into Congress in early 2025. It’s a pivotal seat — right now, Democrats currently hold a 19-18 advantage in the Senate. If Republicans are able to flip the seat, there would be an even split in the chamber.
The winner of Tuesday’s election will serve the remainder of the legislative term, which is up at the end of the year. The 35th District, and all Michigan Senate seats, are up for election in November.
You can find unofficial results here when they are available after polls close at 8 p.m.
