Here is a look at the high school girls golfers to watch this season.
Annika Kruithof
GRADE: Junior
STROKE AVERAGE: 45.5
ON THE GREEN: Last year’s Holland Sentinel Player of the Year. Finished second at the Wooden Shoe, second in the OK Black Conference, ninth at regionals and 44th at the Division 3 state finals.
COACH’S VIEW: “Annika is an outstanding golfer who gives her all in both practice and matches. She has truly stepped up as a leader for the team this year! Her dedication and hard work have paid off, as her game continued to improve and sharpen, ultimately earning her a spot in the state tournament this year! I’m excited to see what her future holds.” – Libby Nienhuis
Lucy Ehinger
SCHOOL: Zeeland East
GRADE: Senior
STROKE AVERAGE: 49.8
ON THE GREEN: Took ninth in OK Black and 22nd at regionals.
COACH’S VIEW: “Lucy played a lot of golf over the summer and her game showed improvement resulting in lower scores. She is a joy to have on the team and is very encouraging of her teammates. I look forward to seeing what she does next year.” – Carla Stowie
Aliyah Pitsch
SCHOOL: Hamilton
GRADE: Sophomore
STROKE AVERAGE: 50.4
ON THE GREEN: Took 13th in the OK Black and 44th at regionals.
COACH’S VIEW: “As a freshman, Aliyah did great things her first year on the varsity golf team. She’s coachable, positive, and ready to become the best player she can be. Our program is super excited to have her for three more years and see what she’s able to become.” – Brooke Pulling
Ashleigh Pomeroy
SCHOOL: Zeeland East
GRADE: Senior
STROKE AVERAGE: 47.9
ON THE GREEN: Finished 12th in the OK Black and 30th at regionals.
COACH’S VIEW: “Ashleigh was not expected to play much this season, if at all, due to a severely broken ankle on the last day of school. But she worked hard at Physical Therapy and was four weeks ahead of her predicted recovery time. Not only did she get to play but she also lowered her average from last year and was an Honorable Mention for All Conference. Her determination to get back on the course was inspiring. I think next year will be a lot of fun for her.” – Carla Stowie
