LANSING TWP. — A 37-year-old man was critically injured after police said “chaos” and gunfire broke out early March 14 outside MAC’s Bar on Michigan Avenue.
Officers were dispatched to the area around the 2700 E. Michigan Ave. bar near U.S. 127 around 1:54 a.m., Lansing Township police said in a news release, based on “reports of a large disturbance and multiple gunshots being fired.”
“When officers arrived, they encountered chaos,” police said. “Responders located a 37-year-old man unresponsive with an apparent gunshot wound to the torso.”
Numerous people and vehicles fled the scene upon the arrival of police.
Police said preliminary evidence indicates more than 30 rounds were fired from multiple firearms in every direction, striking businesses and vehicles in the surrounding area.
Township firefighters provided emergency care to the injured man, who was transported to a local hospital where he remains in critical condition.
“This level of reckless violence in our community should outrage every resident,” police said. “Dozens of shots were fired in a populated area, yet many of the individuals present chose to flee rather than come forward. Silence protects the people responsible for this violence. “
An investigation is ongoing. Police from Lansing, East Lansing, Michigan State University and Ingham County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
