A Dearborn man accused of pointing a shotgun at police last week has been charged, officials said.
Charles William Housman Jr. was arraigned Monday in the 19th District Court in Dearborn, the Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office said.
The 52-year-old is charged with a count of assault with a dangerous weapon, a count of using a firearm during the commission of a felony, a count of possessing a firearm while under the influence, and a count of disturbing the peace.
If convicted, he faces up to four years in prison for assault with a dangerous weapon, up to two years for using a firearm during a felony, 93 days in jail for possession of a firearm while under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, and up to 93 days in jail for disturbing the peace.
A judge set Housman’s bond at $50,000 and scheduled his next court hearing for Aug. 5, officials said.
Court records did not list an attorney representing him on Tuesday.
Incident followed welfare check
Authorities allege Housman pointed a shotgun at Dearborn police officers at about 11 p.m. last Friday.
Police said officers were called to a home in the 24000 block of New York Street near Telegraph Road for a welfare check.
Dearborn police officials said Saturday that officers were called to the location for a report of a man causing a disturbance and yelling “Die, die, die.”
Prosecutors said police arrived, and Housman exited the home armed with a shotgun. He then turned towards the officers and pointed the shotgun in their direction, according to investigators.
An officer responded by firing his service weapon at him, striking the defendant in the leg and wounding him, authorities said.
Police immediately rendered aid until medics took Housman to a hospital, they said.
No officers or anyone else was injured in the incident, police said. They also said the investigation into the officer-involved shooting has been turned over to the Michigan State Police.

The incident is among the latest officer-involved shootings in Michigan.
Earlier this month, a jury found a Michigan Department of Natural Resources conservation officer not guilty in a 2023 officer-involved shooting at the Merrill-Gorrel County Park in Mecosta County.
Also in July, police officers fatally shot an assault suspect who fired shots at them during an hours-long standoff in northeast Kalamazoo County.
In June, a Detroit police officer shot and wounded an armed 19-year-old during the city’s annual fireworks show downtown.
