There’s a new wrinkle in the offseason troubles for former Detroit Pistons shooting guard Malik Beasley.
As first reported by ESPN, a lawsuit filed in April from Hazan Sports Management Group claims Beasley has missed payments on a $650,000 advance, breaching a contract between the two parties. Hazan Sports is seeking $2.25 million in damages from Beasley.
An attorney for Hazan Sports claims the group made a “substantial investment of time, effort and resources” into Beasley, also saying that Beasley was suffering from “financial issues” at the time of their agreement in November 2023.
According to the lawsuit, Beasley has not fulfilled his financial obligations to Hazan Sports and terminated the deal with the management group on Feb. 27, 2025.
News broke on Sunday, June 29, that Beasley was involved in a federal investigation related to prop bets in NBA games. According to ESPN, the game in question occurred on Jan. 31, 2024, when Beasley played for the Milwaukee Bucks.
It is unclear if there is a relationship between the allegations from Hazan Sports and the ongoing federal investigation.
The Pistons were reportedly prepared to offer Beasley a three-year, $42 million deal before they learned of the investigation and put the contract talks on hold. Beasley remains unsigned, and his status as a free agent seeking a new deal may be impacted by the outcome of the investigation.
Beasley made $6 million last year with the Pistons and has made just shy of $60 million in his career, according to Spotrac.
