Allen Park — Detroit Lions linebacker Malcolm Rodriguez left Tuesday’s training camp practice with an ankle injury, the lone casualty of the padded session in Allen Park.
The events that led to the injury are unclear, but Rodriguez appeared on the field after practice with his ankle wrapped and was playing around with his family.
Rodriguez, 27, is aiming for a spot in the Lions’ starting lineup at WILL linebacker. But the addition of former All-Pro Devin White has taken some of the first-team reps off of Rodriguez’s plate, meaning it’s possible Rodriguez could be on the outside looking in on a starting job in the here and now.
Rodriguez signed a one-year deal to return to the Lions this past offseason following the conclusion of his four-year rookie deal.
