M.I.A. removed from Kid Cudi tour after fans 'were upset by her rants'

M.I.A. is no longer a part of Kid Cudi’s summer tour, the rapper announced via social media on Monday.

The announcement follows reports that the “Paper Planes” rapper was booed at a Dallas concert over the weekend after she made several remarks on stage about “illegals” in the audience, and reportedly said, “I’ve been canceled for many reasons. I never thought I would be canceled for being a brown Republican voter.”

After those reports made the internet rounds, Cudi provided an update Monday on his Instagram Stories.

“TOUR UPDATE: M.I.A is no longer on this tour,” he wrote. “I told my management to send a notice to her team before we started tour that I didn’t want anything offensive at my shows, cuz I already knew what time it was, and I was assured things were understood. After the last couple shows, I’ve been flooded with messages from fans that were upset by her rants.

“This, to me, is very disappointing, and I wont have someone on my tour making offensive remarks that upsets my fanbase. Thank you for understanding. Rager.”

The tour, which kicked off April 28 in Phoenix, is set to continue with special guests Big Boi and A-Trak. The tour is due to open Pine Knob’s summer season on May 23.

M.I.A. is no stranger to politics or controversy. She was sued by the NFL after she flipped the bird while performing at the 2012 Super Bowl with Madonna; the lawsuit was later settled out of court.

Cudi’s concert will be his first area show in 10 years. His last local appearance was at the Fillmore Detroit in 2016.

M.I.A.’s latest album, “M.I.7,” was released in April.
