Longtime WDIV-TV (Channel 4) meteorologist Kim Adams is parting ways with the news station, WDIV announced Friday.
The news comes about a year after Adams announced she was battling serious health issues that had caused her to miss broadcasts.
Adams is a breast cancer survivor who had been in remission since 2019. Details surrounding her recent health issues haven’t been made public, and it wasn’t immediately clear whether they factored into her departure from WDIV.
On Thursday, the mother of five posted photos of her with her children on her public Facebook page with the caption, “My life may change, but my ‘why’ will never waver.”
A native of Mount Clemens, Adams has more than 25 years of experience forecasting weather in southeastern Michigan. When she started work with WXYZ-TV (Channel 7) in 1997, she became the first female meteorologist in Detroit television history.
She worked at WDIV from 2002-09 before rejoining the station in 2022. She’s also worked at several local radio stations.
Her separation from the news station took effect Friday, according to WDIV.
“Since joining our team, Kim has played an important role in serving our community and delivering key weather insights to our viewers,” the station said. “We are grateful for her contributions to our newsroom and wish her well in her future endeavors.”
