“Livingston In Photos,” a series shot by reporter Makayla Coffee, highlights the extra-ordinary happenings of your neighbors.
HOWELL — A new downtown Howell business is dedicated to being a local go-to spot for slime, squishy toys and other hands-on crafts for kids.
For this week’s Livingston in Photos, I decided to check out Maya & Cooper’s Slime Cafe, which recently opened at 122 W. Grand River Ave. — connected to The Simply Cherry Collection at 120 W. Grand River Ave.
The business comes from the same owner, Morgan Cherry, and her children — Maya, 7, and Cooper, 9. Cherry recently signed a five-year lease on the vacant storefront that was previously home to Jenna Kator Collection.
Cherry knocked down a portion of the wall to connect the storefronts. The idea for the slime business came from Maya, who learned how to make slime and wanted to sell it. She often runs a slime ice cream station, even participating in pop-up events, and the family is working on a bigger in-store setup.
Maya & Cooper’s Slime Cafe offers a variety of slimes, squishy toys, crafts and small trinkets for children. Customers can also make squishy toys and other creations themselves.
“It’s like a makerspace (and) toy store with slime ice cream sundaes,” Cherry said.
Cherry said Maya has handled many of the business’ creative ideas. Cooper, meanwhile, works behind the scenes and focuses on his own lemonade stand.
Maya said her favorite part of running the cafe has been selling her slimes. She hopes to own a business someday, just like her mother.
Maya & Cooper’s Slime Cafe is open 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Tuesdays-Fridays, 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturdays and 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Sundays. The shop will host a fidget trading party 2-5 p.m. Aug. 14.
