Livonia police warn of zero tolerance at Spree ahead of teen takeover

The Livonia Police Department says it will have “zero tolerance” for disruptive behavior at this weekend’s Livonia Spree.

In a statement posted June 25, police said they are aware of several social media posts referencing a “teen takeover” at the annual festival.

The term refers to large gatherings of teenagers, often organized through social media and sometimes becoming chaotic or even violent.

“Everyone is aware of the history of past “Teen Takeovers” that have, many times, turned into mob-like disorderly, disruptive, or unlawful behavior,” the department said. “There will be zero tolerance, and everyone should expect enforcement action, including removal from the event, citation, or arrest, when appropriate.”

Among the posts circulating online is a flyer encouraging teens to gather at the Spree on Saturday, June 27, beginning at 4 p.m.

The flyer, posted by police, features images of teenagers holding cell phones, says “Livonia Spree Takeover,” includes the phrase “be here or hear about it,” and says the event will continue “until were kicked out the MF!!!!”

The Livonia Spree runs June 22-28 at Ford Field, 33841 Lyndon, at the corner of Farmington Road and Lyndon Road.

The annual event commemorates Livonia’s founding and features carnival rides, live entertainment, food vendors and the Grand Finale Fireworks Extravaganza.

This year, the Spree is charging admission to its fireworks show.

Beginning at 4 p.m. Sunday, June 28, entry will cost $5 for Livonia residents and $10 for nonresidents. Kids 12 and younger will be admitted free

Admission is free during the rest of the festival.

“We look forward to a safe and successful Livonia Spree 76,” police said.
