Lions preseason game 3: Postgame injury report

The Lions escaped preseason game three in good health except for one significant concern with 6th-round rookie Ahmed Hassanein. Here are the injuries I saw along with suspected diagnoses. Also, I’ve listed multiple players who made successful returns after minor injuries earlier in preseason.

Ahmed Hassanein (3q 10:56) – Right pec concern

Hassanein grabbed at his right pec area after the play. He went immediately to the locker room and did not return. The video suggests he might have been injured while engaged with the offensive lineman. We saw this kind of similar mechanism last year with Kyle Peko’s pec rupture….

And Frank Ragnow’s pec strain….

Peko missed the rest of the season while Ragnow only missed one game, so there is a great amount of variability in severity of pec injuries.

A shoulder or AC (acromioclavicular) joint injury are possibilities also for Hassanein.

In the postgame press conference, Dan Campbell offered a brief update.

Anthony Pittman (3q 3:35) – Right ankle contusion

Pittman had a heavy limp after the play which was initially concerning. However, after close look at the video, he simply got kicked in the ankle area likely causing a painful contusion. Pittman got away with a trip here which is very dangerous to the one doing the tripping. He returned to the game and looked fine.

POSITIVE RETURNS

These players all played and looked good after recovering from minor injuries earlier in preseason and training camp.
