Allen Park — Detroit Lions coach Dan Campbell dropped a nugget on Thursday that had potential to be a major concern, when he mentioned that running back Jahmyr Gibbs is dealing with “a little bit of a back” injury that popped up during his conditioning test.
Campbell followed up on the matter on Friday, saying, “I don’t think it’s severe.”
Gibbs, who is apparently holding in to secure a contract extension, will be one of the Lions’ most important players next season, making the positive diagnosis about his back a major relief for Detroit.

DB Christian Izien: Izien (flu) was thought to be able to return on Friday, but that’ll be delayed at least another day. Campbell wants to give the defensive back an extra day to recover.
“One more day, that’s the hope. We were hopeful (for) today, but just, (we said), ‘Man, let’s back this up one more day,'” Campbell said. “So, hopefully after this day off, Sunday he’s able to go. He had the flu, you know? He’s just still a little weak.”
OL Ben Bartch: Bartch, who missed practice during the spring because of a foot injury that ended his 2025 season, hasn’t taken many reps in team drills this camp. Campbell said the team is “trying to be smart” with Bartch and hopes to get him “some team reps next week.”
