Justin Andrew Ortiz, 34, and Matthew Lawrence Wisner, 31, both of Ecorse were arraigned Friday, July 31 in First District Court of Monroe for larceny of over $20,000.
On Wednesday, July 29, according to a news release from the Michigan State Police’s Monroe Post, two men posing as construction workers entered a home in Lambertville with permission from the homeowners.
While inside, the men allegedly stole approximately $65,000 in cash and jewelry and multiple blank checks. The homeowners’ video recording system shows the men fleeing from the home a few minutes after entering with multiple items in their pockets, according to the news release.
After the men left, the homeowners discovered that their property had been stolen. The homeowners were familiar with one of the men from a construction company that previously did work on their home.
Warrants were issued by the Monroe County Prosecutor’s Office for the suspect who was familiar to the homeowners.
The Michigan State Police Fugitive Team located both suspects at a home in Ecorse on July 30. A search warrant was conducted by members of the Michigan State Police Monroe Post and Michigan State Police Metro South Post. Jewelry and checks from the victims’ residence and over $3,000 in cash were seized during the search warrant.
The two suspects are charged with larceny over $20,000 and larceny in a building. They were both given a $75,000 bond. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty, the news release said.
