One of college football’s most hated rivalries will be played on national television next week.
The Big Ten conference announced on Saturday night that the Spartans-Wolverines matchup on October 25 will be played in prime time. Michigan State’s home game against Michigan next week will officially kick off at 7:30 p.m. ET and will be televised on NBC.
Michigan State comes into this rivalry game in relative turmoil in the midst of a four-game losing streak and many wondering if head coach Jonathan Smith will be fired in the near future. The Spartans are 3-4 overall and 0-4 in Big Ten play.
Michigan, meanwhile, rebounded this weekend with a convincing win over Washington to improve to 5-2 overall and 3-1 in Big Ten play. The Wolverines may find themselves back in the Associated Press AP Top 25 next week after the impressive win over the Huskies.
Michigan State has lost the last three games against rival Michigan, and hasn’t lost four straight to the Wolverines since the early 2000s when the Spartans lost six straight from 2002 to 2007. The betting line for this year’s matchup has not yet been announced, but Michigan should be a sizable favorite in this one.
