A Joe Muer-branded restaurant, described as an “icon reimagined,“ will serve as the signature restaurant inside the forthcoming JW Marriott Detroit Water Square downtown along the Detroit River.
The Joe Vicari Restaurant Group, in a Monday, May 18 news release, said Joe Muer Seafood + Chops, a new concept based on the longtime iconic Joe Muer brand, will replace the Andiamo Italian Chophouse previously announced last October for the space.
Plans call for the restaurant to debut along with JW Marriott Detroit Water Square in early 2027.
This opening, the restaurant group said, reflects its efforts and commitment to keeping the Joe Muer seafood brand in Detroit.
Covering nearly 8,000 square feet, Joe Muer Seafood + Chops will provide an intimate design with prime riverfront views, running parallel to Detroit’s Riverwalk.
What the new Joe Muer restaurant will offer
“Joe Muer Seafood + Chops will continue to prominently feature fresh seafood from around the globe along with an expanded selection of prime and Wagyu steaks, and other new, exciting offerings,” said Joe Vicari, owner of the Joe Vicari Restaurant Group. “We are proud to be part of the new JW Marriott Detroit Water Square and to introduce the legendary Joe Muer Seafood to a new generation of diners through this remarkable waterfront development.”
Chef Najwa Mansour will be at the culinary helm, executing the restaurant group’s approach to pairing seafood and prime steaks with other elevated menu items. Mansour has roots in Detroit’s restaurant community and has spent two decades with the restaurant group.
Inside the restaurant’s main dining room is seating for more than 200 guests. There will be chef’s table seating in front of an open kitchen, plus bar and lounge areas, a private wine room with seating for up to 12 guests plus a semi-private dining room that can accommodate up to 80 guests.
Water Square development at the former Joe Louis Arena site
“An icon, reimagined − we’re excited to welcome the legendary Joe Muer brand to JW Marriott Detroit Water Square, said Joleisha Bradley, general manager of the new hotel. “Together, we’re shaping a premier luxury destination that reflects the energy and renewal of Detroit’s waterfront.”
Water Square development is on the site where the Joe Louis Arena stood for decades, with access to Detroit’s highly acclaimed RiverWalk and the Ralph C. Wilson Jr. Centennial Park. It’s expected to be an area offering fine dining, entertainment and residential living.
