I-75 in downriver to get high-friction surface treatment

Metro Detroit will see additional orange barrels on the road this weekend, some lasting until 2028.

Michigan Department of Transportation crews plan to work everywhere from Interstate 75 in Wayne County to Interstate 696 in Macomb.

As construction continues, roadwork can be weather-dependent and could change. A map of construction locations can be found at Michigan.gov/drive.

Here’s what to know:

I-75 in Wayne County

Starting at 7 a.m. Saturday, June 27, and lasting until 7 p.m. Sunday, June 28, one lane will be open on southbound I-75 from Michigan 85/Fort/Schaefer to Michigan 39/Southfield Freeway.

During the lane closures, crews plan to add a high-friction surface treatment to provide more traction during inclement weather, according to MDOT.

I-94 in Macomb

Eastbound I-94 will be closed for resurfacing work from Michigan 3/Gratiot Avenue to Metro Parkway starting at 11 p.m. on Friday, June 26, and lasting until 5 a.m. on Monday, June 29, at 5 a.m.

One lane will be open on eastbound I-94 from I-696 to M-3/Gratiot and Metro Parkway to North River Road from 11 p.m. on Friday until 5 a.m. on Saturday.

I-94 in Wayne

One lane will be open on Westbound I-94 from near U.S.-12/Michigan Avenue to Inkster Road starting Saturday at 6 a.m. and lasting until Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Schaefer Road/Ford Gate 10 ramp to westbound I-94 will close Sunday at 6 a.m. and remain under construction until 2028, according to MDOT. The detour is eastbound I-94 to westbound U.S.-12/Michigan Avenue to southbound Greenfield Road to westbound I-94. All other entrance/exit ramps remain open, at this time, between I-94 and Gate 10.

I-696 in Macomb

Eastbound I-696 from M/3 Gratiot Avenue to I-94 will have one lane open starting Friday at 11 p.m. and lasting until Monday at 5 a.m.

The eastbound I-696 ramp to eastbound I-94 will be closed Friday at 11 p.m. until Monday at 5 a.m.

Eight Mile Road

Michigan 102/ Eight Mile Road at M-1/Woodward Avenue will have one lane open from Friday at 11 p.m. until Saturday at 7 p.m.
