Howell has enthusiastic response to opening of 'express' Colasanti's

GENOA TWP. — Colasanti’s Gourmet Market Express and Snook’s Butcher Shoppe have celebrated their long-awaited opening at 5580 E. Grand River Ave. in Genoa Township.

The opening took place at 9 a.m. May 8, and the parking lot was filled with excited customers.

The location was confirmed by The Daily in May 2025, taking over the former Middletown Market and Electric Ramen — the latter of which has since reopened in Brighton.

Patrick Wasdyke and his daughter, Mary, visited during opening day May 8. Wasdyke fell in love with the store’s original location in Highland, often making the drive once a month.

The father-and-daughter duo said they can’t wait to start shopping from the new location on a weekly basis, especially to get fresh cut meats they can’t find elsewhere — among other pre-made meal options.

Jeff and Alex Kassab, themselves a father-and-son duo, are the owners behind Colasanti’s. They purchased the original location in Highland from the namesake family in June 2023 with the intent of growing the brand and expanding products.

Jeff said the response to a new location has already been overwhelming. In particular, he said, shoppers have shared their excitement for the butcher shop.

“We’re just excited to be part of the community, really,” Jeff told The Daily. “Everyone is so friendly … we hope to build a relationship with everybody here.”

While the location is smaller than the original, the family plans to offer many of the items customers have come to know and love. However, shoppers shouldn’t expect a bakery or full grocery and produce. Instead, they’ll find a full meat counter and “a little bit of everything” when it comes to staples.

There’s grab-and-go meals, hot food, sandwiches and eight soups to choose from.

The location is open 9 a.m.-9 p.m. Mondays-Saturdays and 9 a.m.-8 p.m. Sundays. For more information, visit colasantis.com.
